Time for men-only train cars in Japan?
I got a chuckle out of this Reuters article about how the fear of being accused as a groper/molester on trains in Japan is supposedly starting to bring about a call for male-only train cars. Thanks to legitimate groping/molesting incidents on trains, rush hour in Japan already sees an inclusion of female-only train cars so the thought is that in the name of equality, there should be male-only cars. With some recent cases of men being falsely accused of groping, I suppose the shareholders making the request for male-only train cars is a "CYA" request.
Still, I have to say that I fail to understand the whole fetish about groping or molesting women in trains. If one looks, there is an astonishing amount of hentai imagery dedicated to the subject as well as regular porn on the subject. Take a look at a couple of MILD examples (obviously not so work-safe so don't expand them if you are at work).
Of course, most of these types of images go much further than groping -- women are usually raped (or worse), but as the saying goes when it comes to the Japanese and sex, "It isn't great sex unless it is rape." *_* Also, "The best place to get laid is on a train." Based on the above images, the idea is that women LOVE to be molested on trains and lose all self-control. *_*
So clearly, this fetish fantasy has some guys unable to control themselves and thus the issue of groping in trains. It is a shame really. I honestly cannot fathom the idea of violating a woman this way.

Yea, that ain't really cool. Groping women on trains is wrong. Just imagine that women is a relative or someone you know.
JUST touching isn't that bad. Going overboard is where the problem lies.

I didn't know groping and molesting were legitimate in Japan, nor that it's a positive thing to be thankful for...

I've lived in New York City my entire life (except when I'm outta town for school) and I don't really hear much in the news about groping incidents in the Subway. Might have been some before Giuliani became mayor, but I haven't really heard of any incidents. There's the odd flasher, but you only get those maybe twice a year on average...
So yes, Tokyo's train system is bound to be worse...

If it does happen, I give it a generation or two before people start demanding their to be no discrimination by car or separation or that traveling families need to be together. Having one or more mixed cars too would just continue the complaints of train pervs, likely leading them to be removed then added again and so on.
If you haven't been following Japan stuff, a sizable democratic party has been trying to rapidly reform laws, especially on porn, namely loli as a main goal. They've been set on limiting licensed adult content and has been allying with UNICEF to succeed. Recently, they were actually successful in banning rape and bondage, leading to the editing or removal of many, many games.
UNICEF is a weird case, though. They view Japan's liberal laws on adult content as terrible and something that corrupts other countries. They've made some very over-the-top claims without factual back-up, such as Japan's light restrictions lead to large amounts of sex-related crimes, even if most allied countries have much larger rates than Japan. It's kind of sad, really.
I see Japan fine as it is. If it weren't for the tough work quota and hard to learn written/spoken language, I'd rather live there. But with the changes all these people want lately, maybe not...
